Union County is located in the northeastern corner of New Mexico, bordering Colorado, Oklahoma and Texas – on the Ports to Plains highway connecting both international borders.  Clayton is located at the intersection of US Highways 56, 412, 64 and 87.  Interstate 25 if the closest interstate highway, 83 miles to the west.  Interstate 40 is accessible 109 miles to the south.

Clayton Municipal Airpark (CAO) does not currently offer commercial service, but has a runway that will easily accommodate small jets at 6300 by 75 feet. The Airpark offers 100LL Jet A fuel, hangars and tiedowns . The closest commercial service is from Rick Husband Amarillo International Airport, which is served by four airlines.

Passenger rail service is accessible 80 miles away in Raton, New Mexico where Amtrak makes two daily stops.
